Dada Life – Fun Fun Fun

Daraja | May 31, 2008

Dada Life - Fun Fun FunA short intermission from all Trashbags posts, I wanted to point out an EP, which I think is a bit underrated at the moment. Although it’s out on three labels (Vendetta, 541, and Prestel), I still found it hard to obtain. Talking about Dada Life‘s 2007 Fun Fun Fun. Really have to love the Original mix there. Great work the duo from Sweden did there. Here’s your Juno, as usual.

Boys Noize, MMMatthias, SMACKTOWN

Daraja | May 30, 2008

Boys NoizeHere we have part 3 of my Trashbags Kids post, as a follow up to previous parts [1, 2]. I already gathered enough material for two more posts, so you’re bound to sit tight for the next couple of days. Here we go!

Starting off with a guy who has a lot of good remixes and live sets, not to mention his own productions. Talking about Boys Noize (Berlin, Germany). First of all check his MySpace, since it has got a few good releases on there. Then check his record label, which also features many good releases. And finally, he has many releases out, of which his album, called Oi Oi Oi, is his biggest until now. Recently, a new album came out, called Oi Oi Oi remixed, with remixes of Surkin and The Proxy (more on those later). Check his releases at Juno, if you wish. Personally I recommend Feel Good (TV=Off). Oh, and before I forget, check this little piece of live footage at YouTube. It’s sick.

Enough of Boys Noize, for now. Let’s move on with something else. Also from Germany comes MMMatthias. The stuff I know from him is significantly less than my previous rant, though he has some nice stuff out. Two tracks on his MySpace, called James and Lies, which are not bad, and a whole couple of remixes on the same site. Oh, be sure to check out his blog for many free downloads.

Finally we’ve come to SMΔCKTOWN (hope the Delta works in this one). Anyway, based in NSW Australia, this artist also has some phatt releases out. Recently nothing out on vinyl or CD (as far as I know), but the stuff you need is checkable on his MySpace of course. I really recommend Redial and the Boys Noize remix of Dun Dun.

Bag Raiders, Nixon, Menowah

Daraja | May 29, 2008

Bag RaidersAlright, part 2 of my Trashbags Kids blog post. Hope you enjoyed my first post, though I sadly forgot to state my favourite artist in first place!

I’ve already known this artist before I discovered the blog. Bag Raiders are from Sydney, Australia, and currently have only one real EP out, called the Bag Raiders EP. Really have to love that song called Fun Punch. It is still amazing, every time I listen it. Though not available via Juno.

Second up, an artist I discovered not too long ago, called Nixon, from NSW, Australia. Oh, his electro sounds are just pure filth. Really, listen to the song 2012 on his MySpace. Not sure if there are any EPs out from him, since it’s a hard search. If any, let me know.

Finally, discovered around the same time, an artist from Chicago, Illinois, who calls himself Menowah. He also has a fair piece of electro on his name. Though I can’t find any releases, he is featured on this mix tape. I really love the songs that are on his MySpace. There are some remixes of great names like Justice (Genesis). Just check all out, if you can. Or search the Trashbags Kids blog.

Danger, Kavinsky, Calling in Sick

Daraja | May 27, 2008

DangerAs promised, some artists as posted on the Trashbags Kids blog, which are noteworthy. There are quite a few to pick from, but already I have three great names for you to pick from. These names are how I discovered them in chronological order.

First of all Danger, an electronic artist from France. Made a great impression with his more/or less classic Daft Punk electronic music. But that was not all; he did this great set at Trashbags, Sydney. There’s a video of it on Google Video. He also has one release out, called the 09/14 2007 EP. It’s available for listen at Juno.

Then we have Kavinsky, who has a pretty similar musical style to Danger, yet different. Also from France (Paris, to be exact), he’s clearly influenced by ’80s cartoons. Also, he has a couple of EPs out, available at Juno.

Finally, an artist not from France, but from New South Wales, Australia. Calling in Sick has some great rough electro house for you. Apart from the great Fun Punch remix (I’ll come to Bag Raiders shortly), I really love what they did to Disco Sirens. But even better, their own track called Cali Games. Check it all at their MySpace. Sadly, I can’t find any official releases from them.

Trashbags Kids

Daraja | May 24, 2008

Trashbags KidsI found this blog, not too long ago, called Trashbags Kids (at Blogger). Not sure what it was, though it’s related to the Trashbags club, Sydney (Australia). Apparently they play a lot of dirty electro over there and they set up a blog called Trashbags Kids to gather links, mixtapes and all relevant issues to the music scene. They review great names like MSTRKRFT, Daft Punk, Mr. Ozio, and others. But mostly, they review new music, which is a good listen! I recommend you subscribe to their feed, and I will post some highlights from their blog over the next couple of days.
