I had never heard from Shur-I-Kan before, but Bart van Wissen pointed a track of his out on his Twitter, called ‘Simply Yes – (Magik Johnson remix)‘. I decided to dig into this artist and noticed some nice stuff, like his discography and his podcasts. I’ve been listening to a few, and I quite like his picks and sounds. The title ‘Ghost‘ says it all. Christian Burkhardt procudes a deep, eerie and yet funky track. A howling deep Juno 106 synth rises from the deepest nocturnal. The present bassline needs to be checked out on sound systems like Frankfurt’s Robert Johnson, Berlin’s Berghain or London’s Fabric. Without doubt you experience what we are talking about. Amsterdam imprint Remote Area starts the offshoot of Area Remote. Area Remote focus on one-sided collaborations or one day spin offs. Yet more house, sure still sexy releases such as ‘Mumbling Yeah‘, ‘Sexvibe‘, ‘Poppop‘, ‘Borderline‘, and ‘Casamance‘ can confirm to this statement.
A familiar name in the business, Anton Pieete, now comes with a new EP called ‘Players‘ (Intacto Records, Netherlands). This EP has already been played by big names like Sven Väth, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Adam Beyer, Karotte, 2000 and One, and Loco Dice. Anton Pieete has had massive previous successes with tunes like ‘Handsome‘, ‘The Shining‘, and ‘Time for Grace‘. Now this is certainly going to be a dance floor killer with the massive ‘I Do Not Want‘, ‘Last Night‘, and ‘Players‘.
With a string of releases for highly respected labels like 20:20 Vision, Trapez, Infant, and Morris / Audio, Northern England’s latest young knight-of-the-night Burnski turns out four super tracks for his debut on Dessous! Each energetic cut has a distinctly different theme and flavour, however they complement each other so well, amounting to a superbly tuned helping of straight up tech-house. Fit for the night and hopeful for action, ‘Fertile‘ lock us in with classic deep house chord stabs set against a gritty and infectious rhythm track. My favourite track is the no-messing-around sound from the satisfyingly simple groove of ‘You Said‘.
This time, I’m going somewhat deeper. I remember Robert Babicz from tracks like ‘Dark Flower‘. I am really fond of this guy and happy to announce he recently released some new stuff, called ‘Purple Dance‘ (Treibstoff, Germany). Three great tracks are present on this EP, called ‘Zero‘, ‘Purple Dance‘, and ‘Aural (dub)‘. This EP is definitely worth a shot!
